EEO REPORT FOR 2015 (written Spring 2016)
PMJ COMMUNICATIONS (WLEA-AM and WCKR-FM) did follow the EEO directives in advertising that we are EEO employers and are open to any and all applications for future possible openings. We have also made known to area high schools that we will happily provide speakers to discuss careers in broadcasting.
In addition, we contacted the area colleges and made known to them our EEO commitments and asked that anyone interested in a possible opening in the future contact us. We had no applications of any kind in this period.
We have made staff members available to speak at job fairs in our area as well as make presentations in area high school career days when requested.
Among the colleges contacted:
Alfred University, Alfred NY
State University of Alfred, Alfred, NY
State University at Geneseo, NY
State University at Buffalo, NY
Sports Director, Casey Cameron retired in 2015, and Todd Burritt was hired in March.
With General Manager, Bob Lee, leaving the station, and the passing of owner, Kevin Doran in October of 2015, PMJ COMMUNICATIONS (WLEA/WCKR) held a search for a new General Manager / Sales Manager. That position to be filled January 2016 with John Lewis began at the station and started to train with acting station manager and sales manager, Tom Booth. John will being transitioned into the GM role by 2017. Tom Booth will continue to handle a few accounts (he is semi-retired) and will assist John Lewis in the transfer of duties.
Again, we worked with The Hornell area Chamber of Commerce and Hornell Partners or Growth on career based initiatives. We have used our own facebook page as well as the Hornell Partners for Growth and The Hornell area Chamber of Commerce’s page to seek new employees. We have talked with The Boy Scouts of America local chapter. We have also had Alfred University Career Center on the air on WLEA talking about career opportunities as well as posted openings on the New York State Broadcasters Association website.
WLEA-AM and WCKR-FM have also aired EEO type announcements. Any and all openings were posted on our website—-wwwwlea.net/wckr.com with the usual EEO liner indicating our desire to be an equal opportunity employer.
This report was prepared by John Lewis, soon to be GM
(Reports of the school meetings with staff will be found in the files at the station on Ashbaugh Hill Rd., Hornell)
